  • Friday Nights on Main will offer fun for all ages

    DANVILLE, Ky. - The Heart of Danville Main Street Program is sponsoring "Downtown 'Til Dusk: Friday Nights on Main," June through August.

     

    Downtown shops will have later hours, and most will stay open until 7 p.m. All restaurants and bars will be open as well.

     

    "We want people in the community to think of downtown as a great place to shop, eat and have fun," said Heart of Danville event coordinator Missy Angolia. "We want people to realize they don't have to go out of town on the weekend to find entertainment. Friday Nights on Main will provide activities the entire family will enjoy, right here in Danville."

     

    Retailers participating in Friday Nights on Main include: A&L Accessories, The Clothes Horse, Community Arts Center, Danville Bike and Footwear, Derby Shoppe & Raggs, Karamel Kreations, Maple Tree Gallery, McDowell House & Apothecary (select Fridays), and Twisted Sifter. The following eateries and bars will be open as well: 303W, Baskin Robbins, The Beer Engine, Bluegrass Pizza & Pub, Carbon, The Hub, Mermaids, Orange Leaf, Papa John's, Pescara, Subway and V the Market and Wayne & Jane's Whiskey Bar. Chocolate-N-More will also participate after the business opens later in the summer.

     

    June 7 will kick off the summer series with The Great American Brass Band Festival's Bayou & Brass, which is a Mardi Gras-style street party on Main Street.

     

    On June 14, The Lawn Chair Theater returns with free, family-friendly movies at Constitution Square Historic Site. This year, the Lawn Chair Theater will feature live music prior to each movie. Music will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the movie will begin at dusk.

    June

     

    June 7: The Great American Brass Band Festival's Bayou & Brass, 5:30-10 p.m., Main Street, a Mardi Gras-themed street party with Cajun food, street performances and New Orleans-style music.

     

    June 14: Lawn Chair Theater featuring "E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial," Constitution Square; music by The Natalie Berry-Eben Henson Musical Experience begins at 7:30 p.m., movie begins at dusk. Music and movie sponsored by Family Medicine Clinic of Danville.

     

    June 21: "The Sweeter Side of Downtown;" sample delicious sweets and desserts from shops like Karamel Kreations and Twisted Sifter. The Community Arts Center will sponsor a Starry Night Studio Sampler in Weisiger Park, 5-7 p.m. There also will be live music.

     

    June 28: Music in Weisiger Park, 6-8 p.m.; listen to the summer sounds of Michaelfly and the Soul Revue.

     

    July

     

    July 12: Danville Irish Festival's Shamrock Stroll; event will feature Irish-inspired art, books, photography, jewelry, music and more. Some downtown restaurants and bars will offer Irish-themed food and drink specials.

     

    July 19: Lawn Chair Theater featuring "Brave," Constitution Square; live music begins at 7:30 p.m., movie begins at dusk. Movie sponsored by Farmers National Bank. The Danville Kiwanis Club will be having a cookout fundraiser that day and will continue serving food during Lawn Chair Theater.

     

    July 26: Performances by cast members of West T. Hill Community Theatre's "The King and I," 5:30-7:30 p.m. at Weisiger Park. There will be other surprise performances you won't want to miss!

     

    August

     

    Aug. 2: Lemons and Leftover Sidewalk Sale; great sales at downtown businesses to coincide with the 127 Yard Sale. Strolling musicians the Meadowlarks will perform along Main Street.

     

    Aug. 9: Back to School Lawn Chair Theater featuring "School of Rock," Constitution Square; music by Dump Truck on the Run begins at 7:30 p.m., movie begins at dusk. Music and movie sponsored by Community Trust Bank. The Community Arts Center will have a ballroom dance beginning at 8 p.m.
